A National Holiday

There is just something surreal about Opening Day. Perhaps it's the anticipation that any team, whether it's the Yankees or the Padres, have the same shot. Or, maybe it's the first sign of sunny skies, warm nights, and the beginning of summer. Regardless, baseball's first salvo of the season should be celebrated and cherished. I would have no objections for it to become a national holiday.

The road tripping bible, The Baseball Fans Bucket List, states that Opening Day should be experienced by every true baseball fan in their lifetime. I still haven't achieved that mark, and it's looking like I'll have to wait another year for that. However, from my remote outpost in Oregon, I'm still caught up in the excitement and anticipatory glee.

My trip to Albuquerque isn't for a few weeks, but I have some baseball related activities in the mean time that will fill that lull. In about a week-and-a-half, Baseball Extravaganza 2013 will make its way to the movie theater for the midnight showing of the new Jackie Robinson movie 42. After that, I plan on taking all of you through my own personal "Spring Training" for the upcoming city league softball season.

I feel that this exercise is perfectly suited for the concept of the baseball road trip in that baseball is the main premise, but the overall experience is what counts. I'm breaking new ground seemingly every week with this season's activities, and I am so glad and honored to have all of you along with me.

Always take on a 3-0 pitch ;)
