The Week Ahead

It's going to be a busy next seven days as baseball takes center stage in my life. Culminating in the Puget Sound 2013 road trip, this week has featured my first Ems game and will include a softball tilt against the league-leading team. Suffice to say, it should be quite the next few days.

To start, last night I went to my first Ems game of the year at PK Park. This has only been my second visit to the stadium this year as I have been preoccupied with other stuff. But, to recap the Ems off season, the organization did a complete rebranding of their image complete with new colors and a brand new mascot. In what took the minor league Internet message boards by storm, the Ems designated a Sasquatch as their new mascot. What it has to do with Eugene and the Willamette Valley, I don't know. That gives you an idea of how the Ems organization has changed significantly since moving to PK almost four years ago.

When you go to PK, you can expect to be bombarded with loud music and forced promotions. There were multiple times during the game when I couldn't even make out the announcer saying the batter because the music was too loud. And when you have an on-field promotion every half inning, it becomes rather obnoxious. Whatever happened to the day when people went to a baseball game just to see a baseball game?

Despite this, the game was a grind-'em-out pitcher's duel. Tied 0-0 in the bottom of the ninth, Emeralds pinch hitter Henry Charles hit a walk-off solo jack to beat the Boise Hawks 1-0. It was my first walk off of the year, and hopefully not my last.

Now, on to Wednesday. Our softball team, who is currently mired in a three-game losing streak takes on the top team in the league. I've been playing lights out so far batting a perfect 1.000. I haven't made an error in the field either. We've been having some issues with our lineup, so hopefully our team will string together some runs and take down the top team.

I'll post an itinerary for Puget Sound 2013 probably on Friday.

Always take on a 3-0 pitch ;)
