The long countdown has finally come to an end. Tonight, in the midst of much pomp and fanfare, I leave for the City by the Bay and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I will be going to AT&T Park to see the championship game of the World Baseball Classic. In addition, there is another once-in-a-lifetime experience acting as the "cherry on top" at the conclusion of this trip. All in all, this will be one for the record books.
Here's the itinerary for my trip:
Tonight, I will board Train 11 southbound. An overnight trip will leave me in San Francisco at about 9am on Tuesday morning. I plan on meeting my old college roommate at the Ferry Building.
We will then embark on the San Francisco experience. I plan on riding a lot of cable cars and seeing some sights. I'm also looking forward to eating some In-N-Out too!
At 2pm, I will go to San Francisco City Hall and view the San Francisco City Council proceedings. I'm just planning on listening and observing how this city of 500,000 governs itself. Maybe I can learn some techniques and best practices to bring back to Creswell.
After the meeting, we'll make our way to AT&T Park to see the championship game of the World Baseball Classic. As of this writing, Team Puerto Rico will face the winners of Team Netherlands and Team Dominican Republic. I am disappointed that Team USA failed to advance, thus my nationality will not be represented. Oh well, it's still going to be good baseball played, and I am looking forward to that.
A day off on Wednesday will see me help out my old roommate with his coaching of a high school track team. It's been a while since I have coached high jumpers, but I think I can recall a few tidbits of information. When planning this trip, I had desired to do some community service, so this will fulfill that.
In a last minute change, Thursday will see us travel down to San Jose to see the Oregon Ducks play in the first round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. We only found out yesterday, so adding an extra day onto this trip was no big hassle. Another once-in-a-lifetime event.
After the game, I'll board the train in San Jose and be back in town on Friday afternoon.
As always, I will be updating Facebook, Twitter, and FourSquare constantly. I will update the blog at the end of each day on the events.
I am so glad all of you are along with me for this ride. It should be an incredible trip!
Always take on a 3-0 pitch ;)
