Spring Training got off to a rockin' start early this morning. I decided to forgo the track workout and head straight for the local hill here in Creswell for some interval training up-and-down the hill by my apartment. It is about 100 meters long and is fairly steep by hill standards. Even when I was working out hardcore a few years back, I couldn't do more than five repetitions before becoming exhausted.
This training is not going to be easy. I'm really out of shape and it shows. I was heaving after my first run up the hill. The schedule I have been keeping these past months hasn't really been conducive to keeping in shape. Working a full-time job and a part-time job, while juggling the responsibilities of being a City Councilor, hasn't allowed me the opportunity to work out, burn off some calories, and get in shape again.
Going for the tough workout right away, in my opinion, sets me up for an effective training regimen these next few weeks. The philosophy being that I need to be broken down before being built back up again. I am committed to getting this done and being successful at it.
After running up the hill three times, I went back and did a full round of abdominal exercises and pushups. It was a fulfilling workout and I am glad that I got Spring Training off to a good start.
Always take on a 3-0 pitch ;)
